University of Oran

The University of Oran ( French Université d'Oran ; Arabic جامعة وهران, DMG Ǧāmiʿat Wahrān ) is a university located in Es Sénia in western Algeria in the province of Oran , south of the city of Oran on the Mediterranean Sea . It was founded in November 1961 and attached to the University of Algiers . On April 13, 1965, it got its own campus and on December 20, 1967, it became independent. It was the first of the universities established in the country after Algeria's independence. Its President (December 2018) is Larbi Chahed .

It is one of the most important and largest universities in Algeria, where thousands of students from all over Algeria, the Arab region and abroad complete their studies every year, and which contributes to the scientific and educational support of many universities and university centers in western Algeria. The university is multidisciplinary and offers education and research in many areas: science, technology, health, social and human sciences, economics, management, law, literature, languages ​​and the arts. Their library contains 200,000 volumes. The Oran Es Sénia Airport is located nearby .
