The Umm-al-Qura University ( Arabic جامعة أم القرى Jamiat Umm al-Qura , DMG Ǧāmiʿat Umm al-Qurā 'University of the Mother of All Cities') is a public university in Mecca , Saudi Arabia . "Umm al-Qura" is an epithet of Mecca and means "the mother of the cities". The university was established in 1981 by Royal Decree No. 39 (July 30, 1981) from faculties of King Abdulaziz University .
