The University of Burundi ( French : Université du Burundi ) is the only state university in the African state of Burundi and has its seat in its largest city, Bujumbura . The university was founded in 1960.

The university has 4 campuses in Bujumbura (Mutanga, Rohero, Kamenge, Kiriri) and one campus in Gitega .

After the University of Burundi had a total of 8,545 students in the academic year 2005/2006, the number of students increased to 12,136 students by the academic year 2011/12, which were divided between 8 faculties and 5 institutes.

In the 2016/17 academic year there were 8 faculties and 3 institutes with around 13,000 students.
