Augustin Nsanze

Augustin Nsanze (* 1953 in Kibumbu , district Mbuye , Province Muramvya ) is a historian , diplomat and politician from Burundi .

biography

After studying at the University of Burundi , which he completed with degrees in history and geography , he first became a history teacher at the Lycee Clarte-Notre Dame in Bujumbura in 1978 , but in 1979 switched to the University of Burundi as a lecturer in history he was appointed professor of history in 1987 . In the meantime, from 1987 to 1990 he worked as an advisor to the director of the department for scientific research and then as head of the scientific research service before resuming his work as a history professor in 1992. In addition, he earned a doctorate (Dr. phil.) In history of the Sorbonne .

In addition to his work as a university lecturer, he was also an advisor to President Pierre Buyoya in social and cultural matters between 1992 and 1993 . In 1998 he began a year-long activity as a consultant for the history of Burundi at the UNESCO office in Nairobi . In 1999 he accepted an invitation as a visiting professor at the University of Leiden and between 2001 and 2003 he worked as a research assistant at the University of Laval in Québec .

In 2004 he became an advisor to the Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York and was then Burundi's Ambassador to Ethiopia from 2006 to 2008 . At the same time he was accredited as ambassador to Djibouti and permanent representative to the African Union and the UN Economic Commission for Africa in Addis Ababa . On May 7, 2008 he became permanent representative to the UN in New York.

He returned to Burundi just a few months later, after President Pierre Nkurunziza appointed him Foreign Minister on January 29, 2009. In this capacity, he reached a debt relief by Japan in the amount of 37.5 million US dollars . In November 2011 he was replaced by Laurent Kavakure as part of a major government reshuffle .
