from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Laurent Kavakure (born January 5, 1959 ) is a Burundian diplomat and politician who served as Burundian Foreign Minister from November 2011 to May 2015. Kavakure was Burundian ambassador to Belgium from 2006 to 2010 . He was born in Tangara in the province of Ngozi.

He was removed from his post as foreign minister on May 18, 2015 , shortly after a failed coup attempt during the 2015 Burundian unrest.

These began after President Pierre Nkurunziza announced that he wanted to run for office a third time. Observers said his dismissal could be due to Kavakure's failure to persuade other states to support the 2015 presidential election.

In 2012 Laurent Kavakure visited the state parliament of Baden-Württemberg as part of the partnership between Burundi and Baden-Württemberg. Here Friedlinde Gurr-Hirsch , deputy chairwoman of the CDU parliamentary group, decided to enter into new collaborations with Burundi in order to promote health , education , training , agriculture and forestry . That is why Baden-Württemberg increased the capital of the Development Cooperation Foundation by five million euros.
