The Hamburg University Archive (proper name: UAHHR ) is a central institution of the University of Hamburg . As a public archive , it serves research and teaching at the university, its self-administration and legal safeguards. A special feature of the Hamburg university archive is the responsibility for university records management, which ties the archive very closely to the university administration.

history

The archivable administrative records of the University of Hamburg and its predecessor institutions are stored in the university archive. In addition, the university archive collects bequests from university members and objects of importance to the university's history. The records accessible in the university archive go back to the early 19th century. It documents, among other things, the establishment of the Hamburg University during the Weimar Republic , the phase of its renaming to the Hanseatic University during the Nazi era , the reopening of the University of Hamburg in 1945 and its path through student protests to the modern university in the 21st century. Since it was founded until 2014, the holdings have been kept in the Hamburg State Archives . An agreement was reached between the University Archives and the State Archives in 2016. This regulates u. a. answering various holdings in the reading room of the State Archives. The inspection of archived material for scientific, personal and journalistic purposes is possible for every person.

structure

Dennis Hormuth is the head of the archive. The university archive is thematically divided into the archive area and the registry area and has three departments for records management, archiving core tasks and digital services and internal advice. The Hamburg University Archive is one of the few institutions in the Federal Republic of Germany that combines all tasks that relate to the life cycle of official documents, from the creation of the file plan and the allocation of file numbers for the beginning of the business process to the evaluation, indexing and storage of the archivable parts of university tradition. The digital change has been taken into account by establishing the Digital Services and Internal Consulting Department.

Hamburg matriculation portal

The Hamburg matriculation portal enables research in the matriculation of the University of Hamburg. It provides information on all students who studied in Hamburg between 1919 and 1935. For the 100th birthday of the University of Hamburg, the database went online, in which all students from the years 1919 to 1935 are listed. In addition to around 35,000 entries with matriculation data, the digitized original volumes of the university matriculations are also available. The information on enrollment was handwritten in these books for each of the four faculties at the time. In a further project funded by the DFG, the enrollment applications are to be digitized from 1918 until the synchronization and reorganization of the university administration in 1935. These documents are part of the inventory “201c Dept. 3 Studies and Teaching”. Matriculation and matriculation applications will be available in a common database.

Hamburg professors catalog (HPK)

In cooperation with the Office for University History, a comprehensive catalog of the former professors at the University of Hamburg was created and made available to the general public on a website. The HPK covers a period from 1919 to the present day. With a view to the centenary of the University of Hamburg, the Department for University History of the HPK designed and edited under the leadership of Rainer Nicolaysen and Matthias Glasow. The catalog was presented and activated on January 26, 2017. Since March 2017, the editorial support and processing has been carried out by the Hamburg University Archives.
