The Tartu University Library ( Estonian Tartu Ülikooli Raamatukogu ) is the central library of the University of Tartu in Estonia . With around 3.7 million media, it is the largest library in the country.
history
From 1632 to 1710 the Dorpat University Library was part of the Swedish University. After its closure, several thousand volumes from the university library were brought to Sweden and integrated into the Royal Library in Stockholm . Various private Baltic libraries provided the basis for today's university library , which was founded in 1802 .
Collections and holdings
The collection contains some valuable medieval and early modern manuscripts and prints. The entire inventory of the library consists of around a third of Russian and German literature.
