Bernhard Fabian

Bernhard Fabian (born September 29, 1930 in Waldenburg) is a German literary and book scholar .

Life

Fabian studied English literature , American studies , history and philosophy at the University of Marburg , where he was in 1955 with a thesis on Alexis de Tocqueville's image of America PhD . In 1960 the habilitation followed . In 1962 he was given a chair at the University of Münster . Until his retirement in 1996, Fabian was Professor of English Studies in Münster and director of the English seminar there and of the Institutum Erasmianum .

He has made significant contributions in the field of book and library studies . His book, library and research in the humanities , published in 1983, provided the impetus for the collection of German prints . One of his best-known works is the publication of the handbook of historical book collections .
