The University of Edinburgh Business School (UEBS) - formerly the University of Edinburgh Management School - is the business school of the University of Edinburgh and has offered economics courses since 1918 .

The UEBS has been accredited as one of the world's top 1% business schools with the prestigious Triple Crown triple accreditation from AMBA , EQUIS and AACSB . This makes it one of the most prestigious British and European management schools. In an international comparison, the UEBS was ranked 8th in Great Britain, 16 in Europe and 54 worldwide according to the Financial Times .

Entrance of the UEBS

The University of Edinburgh was asked in 1916 by the Edinburgh Chamber of Commerce to establish a degree for its members. As a result, the Bachelor of Commerce (BCom) was launched in 1918 and the Chair of Accounting and Business Method , which was the first of its kind in Scotland, was established. First part of the Faculty of Arts , the Department of Business Studies and the Department of Accounting and Business Method were soon established.

It was not until the 21st century that the BCom was replaced by the Master of Arts (MA) in Business Studies. The Master of Business Administration (MBA) was first offered in 1980. Since then, over 3,500 students have completed this program. The first MSc program was introduced in 1996.

Since August 2010 the business school has been housed in a newly built building in the center of the university campus and in the heart of the city of Edinburgh. The new building represented an investment of £ 17 million for the university. It includes all staff offices, eight lecture halls, several work rooms, an executive education suite and a café. The business school also shares the historic and modern buildings of Edinburgh University.

Academic units

8 competence centers and research facilities have been set up at the UEBS . It also cooperates with some external research centers. The UEBS offers various study and research programs with a strong focus in teaching and research on the following areas:

In addition to financial management , UEBS also has a strong focus on innovation and entrepreneurship and organizes various business plan competitions. Courses and lectures are also organized in collaboration with the Edinburgh-Stanford Link , where entrepreneurs and investors speak. The E-Club has been promoting entrepreneurial activities at the university since 2005.

The Edinburgh Careers Service Team advises and trains students on careers, personal development and soft skills. The students also benefit from the international alumni network and the up to 50 guest speakers who give lectures at the UEBS every year. The UEBS alumni network has 10,000 members in over 120 countries.

MBA

The MBA is currently offered as a full-time MBA (12 months) and a part-time Executive MBA (27 months). In addition to the usual case studies and group projects during the course, the full-time MBA also includes a 3-month consulting project in cooperation with various companies. In the International Business MBA, students spend another three months at one of the worldwide partner universities and then do an MBA internship in a company.
