The University of Massachusetts Boston (also known as UMass Boston or UMB ) is a state university in Boston , Massachusetts . It is part of the University of Massachusetts network. It is based on the Columbia Point headland in the Boston borough of Dorchester , near the John F. Kennedy Library .

In 2008/2009, around 13,000 students were enrolled at the university.

history

The university was founded in 1964 and has since merged with other universities in Boston, for example with the Boston State College, founded in 1852 . It has been based at its current location since 1974. In 2000, the first presidential debate between George W. Bush and Al Gore took place on campus at the Clark Center .
