The structure and occurrence of UUGs is similar to LUGs from the loose heap or Unix Stammtisch to registered clubs (eV) or associations.

The Unix User Group Austria (UUGA), organized in the form of an association, was involved in establishing the first Internet connections in Austria. It no longer exists.
