Unkeroda is the significantly larger part of the Wolfsburg-Unkeroda district of the Gerstungen municipality in the Wartburg district and is located about one kilometer north of the core of Wolfsburg in the Elte valley . The geographic height of the place is 280 m above sea level. NN .
The first documented mention of Unkeroda dates back to 1197. In the Middle Ages, the place belonged to the Wartburg district , the number of inhabitants remained small until the 19th century. Since the 16th century, the agricultural town experienced a first strong revival through mining. In the late 19th century, Unkeroda became important as an excursion destination for visitors from the neighboring town of Eisenach , 5 km to the north , which resulted in the construction of restaurants.
