history
The development of UnrealIRCd began in 1999. UnrealIRCd is based on EliteIRCd, which was split off from DALnet's DreamForge IRCd. There have been a lot of code changes since then.
After three years of development, UnrealIRCd 3.2 was released on April 25, 2004. UnrealIRCd 3.2.x was a very successful series and would be supported for more than 10 years.
On July 13, 2007, founder Stskeeps announced that version 4.0 should be split off from InspIRCd . This idea was later rejected.
On December 17th, 2012 it was announced that development on the next version of UnrealIRCd had started. Three years later, on December 24, 2015, UnrealIRCd 4.0.0 was released. Internally, UnrealIRCd 4.0.0 contains many changes to make the source code more modern. Many features have been added and changes made based on the results of a questionnaire two years earlier.
