Our newspaper

Our newspaper (UZ) was an Austrian children's and youth magazine published by the communist Globus Verlag (Vienna) from 1946 to 1960 , in which some distinguished authors and illustrators contributed.

The children's magazine began its publication with the number of July 1, 1946. The editorial line was, like that of the KPÖ , Austrian-patriotic, the paper was initially able to spread far beyond the narrow circle of communist-oriented families. Authors such as Mira Lobe , Else Weichberger and Friedl Hofbauer , illustrators such as Susi Weigel and Susanne Wenger ensured an attractive design. In 1954, the magazine's 3D inserts caused a stir. In the 1950s, the market share of the UZ decreased, not least due to the growing dominance of the “ wonder world ” and the increasing marginalization of the KPÖ after the October strike in 1950 and the popular uprising in Hungary in 1956 . With Issue 24/1960 the UZ was set as a separate children's magazine, but as a supplement of the CPA Magazine to 1964 voice of the woman continued.

As part of the preparation for the exhibition “60 Years of Wonder World - Children's World”, which the Austrian Museum of Advertising and the Alsergrund District Museum (1090 Vienna, Währinger Str. 43) organized from October 9, 2008 to February 1, 2009, advertising museum operator Peter Suschny researched the Alfred Klahr Society , where interested people can read through copies of this magazine, which was very modern for the time, in the library, as the first star collective photos were already available in the 1950s (although still black and white) and even contain Advent handicrafts were. In contrast to the “Children's Post” and “Friendship”, the children's magazine only barely survived the 1950s.
