history

The Catholic church in the Bad Oberdorf district, built in 1937/38 by the Augsburg architect Thomas Wechs from Bad Oberdorf , replaced an old previous building. The previous building, which stood in the same place, was demolished in 1936 due to a dilapidated foundation and significant moisture penetration.

Today's church contains several valuable works of art: a 1493 in Byzantine style by Hans Holbein the Elder. Ä. painted Madonna and Child (discovered in 1935 by Geistl. Rat Max Pfau in the old Jodokus chapel), the beautiful altar carved by Jörg Lederer in 1519 with the depiction of the Coronation of Mary, of which the wings have not been preserved, and a life-size Christ on the top, likewise Gothic Palm donkey . This palm donkey is accompanied every year on Palm Sunday in a solemn procession from Bad Oberdorf to Bad Hindelang to the parish church, where it remains until Maundy Thursday .

The side altars are dedicated to St. Magnus and St. Gallus; the figures were taken from the former Bad Oberdorf chapel. According to Alfons Kasper, they show influences from Anton Sturm , who of course St. Magnus z. B. on the right side altar of the chapel of Schöllang with a ball of fire in the raised right hand, whereas the figure in Bad Oberdorf holds a crucifix in this hand. Kasper wrote in 1969, however, that the raised rights of Oberdorf Magnus were empty.

Further panel paintings and figures of saints complete the furnishings of the church.
