Underground refueling
The underground fueling is a system for ground refueling of aircraft at airports .
The kerosene is pumped through underground pipes from a nearby tank farm directly to the aircraft stands. The aircraft are refueled there with airfield tankers without their own tank (called dispensers or hydrant trucks).
The pipe system of the underground refueling system at Frankfurt Airport has a total length of 38 km.
Advantages of underfloor fueling
Since no tankers have to drive to the aircraft, the risk of accidents on the airport apron is significantly reduced. In addition, emissions are reduced because there is a closed line from the tank farm to the aircraft.
