On the way is a series of reading books for German lessons from Ernst Klett Verlag for grades 5 to 10. The first edition took place in 1994. In 2004 the series was fundamentally revised and reissued. The volume is mostly 240 pages per volume, only the volume for grade 10 is shorter with 216 (old edition) or 224 pages (new edition).

Editing, editing and selection of the contained texts was carried out by Elke Bleier-Staudt, Katrin Bothe, Günter Lange, Jörg Ulrich Meyer-Bothling, Herbert Schnierle-Lutz, Karin Schröer, Eike Thürmann and Günter Waldmann. The design and text illustrations of the series are by Uwe Häntsch .

Text part

The original conception of the Unterwegs series consisted of a text and a project part per volume. The text part Topics and Texts includes short stories illustrated by Häntsch, book excerpts and poems on predefined key topics that make up the individual sections or chapters of the text part.

Revision from 2004

The revision of the series that took place in 2004 served on the one hand to introduce the New Spelling , on the other hand, the project part in particular was fundamentally revised, modernized and placed at the beginning. In addition, there was a part of information introduced after the text part , which contains, among other things, explanations of terms as well as learning and project templates and for which the actual text part has been shortened.

In addition, the cover design , which was originally partly marbled and based on fiction novels, was revised in favor of a more sober design of the cover; the numbers in the individual volumes are no longer based on the respective grade level (5 to 10), but now run from 1 to 5.
