Undisputed world boxing champion
In professional boxing , the title of the undisputed world champion (English Undisputed Champion or Unified Champion ) is awarded to the person who combines the world championship titles of all recognized boxing associations . It is the greatest success a professional boxer can achieve. The only weight classes in which there has not yet been an undisputed world champion are super middle, superbantam, half-fly and straw weights.
The title is often confused in boxing with the linear world champion (English lineal champion ).
Boxing associations
The following boxing associations were assumed as a criterion over various time intervals:
- 1920–1963: New York State Athletic Commission (NYSAC) and National Boxing Association (NBA) (renamed World Boxing Association (WBA) from 1962 )
- 1963–1983: WBA and World Boxing Council (WBC)
- 1983–2007: WBA, WBC and International Boxing Federation (IBF)
- since 2007: WBA, WBC, IBF and World Boxing Organization (WBO)
In practice, however, the NYSAC boxing association was still considered important by boxers for meeting the criteria until 1970.
