The company was founded as "Update Marketing Ges.mbH" by Gilbert Hödl and Arno Huber in 1988 in Vienna . In the founding year 1988, the DOS-based version 1.0 of marketing.manager was introduced. In 1997, the Vienna parent company was converted into a stock corporation, accompanied by three venture capital financing rounds from 1997 to 1999.
