Urbain Decottignies (born July 14, 1910 in Marquette-lez-Lille , † unknown) was a French football player .

Career

Decottignies was in 1932 in the squad of Olympique Lille , which was one of the founders of the newly created professional league Division 1 as the highest national league that year . The 179 centimeter tall striker , who was versatile in attack, was on the field on September 11, 1932 in the opening game of the league against Olympique Marseille , making his debut on the first day of the game. From then on, at a time when substitutions and substitutions were not yet possible, he continued to play, even if he was not uncontested. After he had played ten of eighteen games and had moved into the final of the two-pronged league only in the opening year with Lille as group first, he was called up in the final; thanks to a 4-3 win against AS Cannes , he was part of the first championship team in French professional football.

Even if the championship title could not be confirmed, Decottignies personally achieved his best goal rate in the 1933/34 season with 14 hits in 18 games. He continued to book regular appointments in the team towards the mid-1930s and came with the team in each case on placements in the upper part of the table, although it was never enough for another title. In the course of the 1936/37 season he was largely ousted from the team and was on the field no more than eight times. This trend solidified in the following years, so that the player could not take part in the national cup final in 1939 , in which his comrades missed the cup win by a 1: 3 defeat against Racing Paris . In the same year the Second World War broke out; for the already hardly used Decottignies, this meant the end of his professional career after 85 first division games with 37 goals.
