Urbnri [ˈɜːbnraɪ] is a British indie rock band from Glasgow .

Band history

The band's origins lie in the prison of Greenock, west of Glasgow . 19-year-old Kev Tait was jailed after a fatal drug dealer shootout. During this time he wrote songs in which he dealt with unemployment, drugs and violence in his youth. After his release, he looked for musicians who could perform his songs authentically and finally started the band Urbnri with three cousins from Ireland. The name is the backwards written brand name of the Scottish lemonade drink Irn-Bru .

They played gigs on an industrial site in Glasgow and made a name for themselves. At the end of 2007 they had their first official appearances and were able to attract over 1000 fans. The following debut single Young, Free and Simple went straight to number one on both the Scottish regional sales charts and the British indie charts. And it also made it to the top 40 on the official UK charts . Back Me Up as the second release was also the second top runner again in Scotland and in the indie charts.
