history

The establishment of an urn cemetery in Linz goes back to the association Die Flamme . On the area of the Urfahr Stadtwäldchen, the urn cemetery was built from 1925 to 1929 according to plans by the architect Julius Schulte with a fire hall and gatehouse. This was ideologically controversial, as the Catholic Church then rejected cremation. After Schulte's death in 1928, his students Hans Arndt , Paul Theer and Rudolf Nowotny completed the building.

After the new funeral hall was built in 2003, the old one was shut down. In addition to Schulte's grave on the gallery of the old fire hall, there are some graves of prominent personalities in this cemetery, such as most of Linz's mayors.
