Ursicinus of Ravenna

According to legend, Ursicinus of Ravenna († around 67 ) was a doctor and early Christian martyr . He is venerated as a saint .

Ursicinus worked as a doctor in Ravenna . Vitalis , who also came from Ravenna and who , like Ursicinus, suffered martyrdom, is said to have comforted him before his execution. In representations of Ursicinus you can see him carrying his severed head from which palm branches grow. Ursicinus is especially admired in his hometown. The saint's feast day is June 19th .

Ursicinus is not to be confused with the eponymous Bishop of Ravenna from the 6th century .
