Paraceratherium in the Sebnitz Primeval Park

The Sebnitz Primeval Park is an open-air museum in the Saxon city of Sebnitz . More than 400 sculptures of various prehistoric creatures are on display in the approximately one hectare facility.

history

The builder of the Sebnitz prehistoric park was the sculptor Franz Gruß , who had already created the Kleinwelka dinosaur park and the Großwelka dinosaur garden. After a falling out with the community of Kleinwelka and due to the lack of space in his dinosaur garden, in the 1990s, Gruß was looking for a site for another theme park. The mayor of the city of Sebnitz then offered him an area to lease, and Gruß began with the construction of the primeval park. The facility was opened in 1996.

Sculptures

The over 400 sculptures in the Sebnitz prehistoric park document the evolution from aquatic to land creatures. Microorganisms such as bacteria and other microorganisms are shown, magnified up to 1000 times. Other thematic focuses of the park are mammals from the Cenozoic era and various representatives of prehistoric humans . There are also insects , reptiles and life-size sculptures of dinosaurs on display. A separate exhibition shows minerals and fossils .
