uShip.com is an online freight exchange for transportation services. Private households as well as companies can use objects of various categories, such as For example, set cars, boats or heavy industrial equipment to be transported to uShip. Shipping companies then have the opportunity to place bids for these items. The company works with a feedback rating system for both parties - for freight forwarders as well as for shipping customers. This is similar to eBay's rating system .

For some categories, including boats, cars and LTL freight , transport bids from various sources are displayed in advance. Based on these fixed offers, shipping customers can book their transport order directly or, optionally, wait for bids from shipping companies.

The process is similar to the eBay "buy now" tool. The reverse auction format offered by the site aims to reduce transport costs by allowing freight forwarders to find transport orders while on the move and thus fill free capacities.

history

CEO and founder Matthew Chasen first had the idea to found uShip in 2001. The idea arose when his mother had difficulty finding a carrier to transport her dresser. When he drove to the university in a half-empty truck later that year , he realized that he could fill the free space in his van with items from other people who were still looking for a carrier and whose assignment is on a similar route (ibid).

Matt Chasen submitted his uShip idea to various business competitions through his university in Austin, Texas, won first place at the University of North Texas and was the winner of the 2004 Venture Labs Investments competition.

Shortly thereafter, uship.com was launched and received funding from Benchmark Capital in 2005.

Partnerships

In 2009, uShip partnered with Ritchie Bros . Auctioneers one - the world's largest auction house for heavy equipment.

A partnership with Terra Pass allows uShip, the monthly CO 2 emissions to be calculated by forwarders who participate in this program.

The company was integrated into the reality show Die Transporter - Let's move it of the A&E Network in 2012 . Independent truckers have the chance to bid on unusual transport orders and win them.
