Ut unum sint

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The encyclical Ut unum sint (“That they are one”) from 1995 dedicated Pope John Paul II to ecumenism . In it he affirmed the desire for the unity of all Christians and called for dialogue on the exercise of the Petrine office by the Bishop of Rome . The title of the encyclical refers to a word of Jesus from the Gospel of John ( Joh 17,11  EU ) and indirectly to the document Unitatis redintegratio of the Second Vatican Council .
