Utopia is the second mini album and thus the third release by the Estonian singer and songwriter Kerli . It was released on March 19, 2013 by Island Def Jam Music Group . Originally intended as a full album, the release of Utopia was postponed after the unauthorized release of the album on numerous download portals. In contrast to the debut album Love Is Dead , which in its composition is a mixture of Pop and Gothic Rock , the titles on Utopia are more likely to be assigned to Electropop . Kerli himself describes the style of her release as "Bubble Goth".
The EP's second track, The Lucky Ones , was released as a single on iTunes on October 29, 2012 .
backgrounds
Kerli describes in a statement Utopia as her "search for love and joy" and says that she went through "great personal changes" while writing the tracks for the album. With its rather cheerful content, Utopia represents a strong contrast to its dark predecessor Love Is Dead .
content
In Can not Control the Kids is about the "power that have the young people of today because of technology and the Internet", and the fact that "anyone with a laptop that is possible to create something unique and to share it with the rest of the world ”. The Lucky Ones wrote by Kerli after a friend of hers beat cancer and was given a "second chance". In the ballad Love Me or Leave Me , Kerli deals with the difficult situation of being in a relationship with a person and not knowing the partner's feelings, which was not experienced by herself but by a friend of hers.
