Uttanasana

Uttanasana ( Sanskrit उत्तानासन uttānāsana ; in German for example: intensive-stretching-posture ) is a classic yoga exercise . The Sanskrit name is formed from the words uttāna (उत्तान) (meaning: "extremely stretching") and āsana (आसन) (meaning: " sitting " or "posture"). The oldest known description of the posture is found in Krishnamacharya 's book Yoga Makaranda (1934).

Uttanasana

The person performing the work starts from the mountain position (Tadasana), that is, "standing upright". She bends forward and makes sure that her back stays straight at the beginning. The lower part of the spine is then gradually flexed. The hands are brought down as far as possible, lie flat on the lower legs or on the floor or (for shawls) behind the feet. The body is brought as close as possible to the legs.
