Uunartoq Qeqertaq ( German  island that is so that one is burned , English Warming Island ) is an uninhabited island east of Greenland . It is located about 550 km north of the Arctic Circle .

Until recently, the island was connected to the main island by means of a glacier and was therefore mistaken for a peninsula . Between 2002 and 2005, the connecting ice disappeared in a slow glacier melt .

The New York Times was the first to report in its January 16, 2007 issue that it has now been discovered that Uunartoq Qeqertaq is an island in its own right.
