Uwe Altrock

Uwe Altrock (* 1965 in Memmingen ) is a German urban planner . He is the editor of the “Planungsrundschau” magazine and co-editor of the “ Urban Renewal Yearbook ”.

Life

Altrock studied mathematics and urban and regional planning at the TU Berlin between 1984 and 1991 . After working as an employee in planning offices and completing an urban development traineeship (major state examination in 1994), he returned to the TU Berlin as a research assistant. There he received his doctorate in 2001 with a thesis on "Office space policy in Berlin 1981–1999 - actors, goals, decisions".

In 2002 he went to the TU Hamburg-Harburg as a substitute professor for district development . This was followed by a junior professorship for urban structures at the BTU Cottbus . Since 2006 he has been professor for urban redevelopment and urban renewal at the University of Kassel and from April 2016 he will be the dean of Faculty 06 Architecture, Urban Planning, Landscape Planning.

Research priorities

More recent research deals with individual topics of urban renewal and urban redevelopment such as urban identity and reconstruction, the governance approach in local political research or the evaluation and further development of urban development funding. International research assignments deal with a. with the reconstruction of New Orleans and with the mega-urban region of the Pearl River Delta in the People's Republic of China .
