Uwe Dittmann

Uwe Dittmann (born August 8, 1964 in Gotha ; † March 22, 1985 in Spichra ) was a GDR border soldier killed on duty . Dittmann was shot dead by a deserted GSSD soldier who then shot himself on the Werra bridge to Pferdsdorf-Spichra.

Life

Uwe Dittmann was a trained mechanical engineer. Dittmann was called up for a year and a half military service in the fall of 1983. At the time of his death he was a private in the Border Command South and there in Border Regiment 1 "Eugen Lewin".

On March 22, 1985, the Soviet soldier Valeri Kirjuchin deserted from a GSSD barracks in Weimar and tried to flee to the West. In the early morning hours of March 22, 1985, he came across soldiers of the GDR border troops in the border area who were on duty there due to the large manhunt that had been triggered. There was an exchange of fire in which private Uwe Dittmann was fatally injured.
