South border command

The border command south belonged to the border troops of the GDR . The headquarters were in Erfurt .

history

The command was established in 1971 from the previous border brigades in Erfurt . The command was located in an old barracks complex on Kranichfelder Strasse in Erfurt. In 1989 restructuring began with the formation of border district commandos. The border regiments (GR) were subordinate to the border command :

as well as the border training regiments (GAR):

  • GAR 11 “Theodor Neubauer” in Eisenach
  • GAR 12 "Rudi Arnstadt" in Plauen.
