Uwe Mares
Uwe Mares (born May 8, 1942 in Hamburg ) is a former German sailor .
In addition to seven victories at the Kiel Week , Mares also won the 1974 World Championship and the 1975 European Championship in Tempest . He also took part in the Summer Olympics in 1964 and 1976 , where he finished fifth in 5.5 and fourth in Tempest. Later he was national coach of the Olympic Starboot team at the games in 1992 and 1996. Since 2009 he has been the coach of the Rotoman team.
For his sporting successes he was awarded the Silver Laurel Leaf by Federal President Walter Scheel .
