Uwe Nickel

Uwe Nickel (born July 3, 1942 in Sopot ) has been a freelance graphic artist and painter since 1962. He lives and works in Hagen .

His training included graphics, design and painting. His artistic work mainly includes numerous poster, book and graphic designs as well as numerous wall designs (art in buildings) on public buildings. At the invitation of the Goethe Institute, Nickel was involved in exhibitions and workshops in many countries. a. at international biennials in Poland, Switzerland, Italy and the USA.

In addition, his works have been shown in exhibitions in San Francisco, Paris, Amsterdam, Berlin, Hanover and Wiesbaden, as well as in a permanent exhibition in the Atelier-Galerie Haus Busch, Hagen. So far, his work has been awarded the Karl Ernst Osthaus Prize of the City of Hagen.

Nickel offers numerous art workshops with students as well as numerous art workshops with adult education centers.

    • On the outside wall of the gymnasium, children are shown playing in bright colors, enjoying a different world, removed from the normal adult world. In this "upside-down world", the sun and clouds are arranged in the lower half of the picture, while the children seem to float above the earth. The mural has strong similarities with works of "Pop Art".
