Uwe Steiner (Germanist, 1955)

Uwe Steiner (born November 17, 1955 in Sorsum ) is a German philologist and literary scholar.

Life

Uwe Steiner studied German and philosophy at the Free University of Berlin , where he also received his doctorate (1987) and habilitation (1998). He has taught at the University of Bern and has worked at several US universities, including two Max Kade Distinguished Visiting Professorships at the University of Washington and Indiana University Bloomington .

His main research interests are Walter Benjamin , theories of modernity and modernization, and the emergence of philosophical anthropology during the Weimar Republic.
