Uzboi Vallis

Uzboi Vallis, based on data from THEMIS

Uzboi Vallis is a valley within the Magaritifer Terra region on Mars .

location

Uzboi Vallis begins at the northern end of the Argyre Planitia , more precisely at the northern edge of the Bond crater , leads north in an arc around the Martynov crater and continues in a north-easterly direction. At the height of the northern rim of the Martynov crater, the Nirgal Vallis - a long, narrow valley - joins the Uzboi Vallis from the west . Immediately to the north of this is the Luki crater , which was created later and shaped the valley. In the further course the valley meets the southwest rim of the Holden crater . Here the water created a deep incision in the crater rim.

Surname

Uzboi Vallis is named after the Usboi River in Turkmenistan , vallis is the Latin word for valley.

Emergence

Uzboi Vallis was created by running water. It is believed that it (the Uzboi-Ladon-Morava system ULM System ) is a once-cohesive river system whose source at the edge of the crater Argyre was and from there via the Uzboi Vallis, Ladon, Magarifiter and Ares Vallis extended and finally flowed into the Chryse Planitia . With over 8000 km it is the longest known river system in the solar system. In later times, the runoff system was interrupted by various impacts such as the Holden impact.
