history

The first inhabitants settled in the area at the beginning of our era, when the land slowly began to rise from the sea. As the coastline receded, the people gradually took possession of the new land, maintaining their old maritime trade links. The abundant prehistoric grave finds testify to this, for example a wine trowel, which was made in the Roman Capua in 100 AD and served as a burial object in the 4th century AD, or Arabic coins from the 9th century.

Vähäkyrö became independent in 1607 and received its first church in 1610. The current church was completed in 1803, but the bell tower was completed in 1767.

The history of Vähäkyrö is presented in the local history and tinsmith museum.
