The Kyrönjoki [ ˈkyrœnjɔki ] ( Swedish Kyro älv ) is a river in western Finland . The largest river in the South Ostrobothnian landscape is 169 km long and has a catchment area of 4,923 km².
The Kyrönjoki has three tributaries: the Seinäjoki , Jalasjoki and Kauhajoki . The confluence of the Jalasjoki and Kauhajoki in Kurikka is considered the starting point of the Kyrönjoki . From there it flows via Ilmajoki to Seinäjoki , where it connects with the river of the same name, and on via Ylistaro , Isokyrö and Vähäkyrö to Korsholm . There, around 20 km north of the city of Vaasa , the Kyrönjoki flows into the Vassorfjärden , a bay in the Gulf of Bothnia .
As is typical for southern Ostrobothnia, the banks of the Kyrönjoki are used intensively for agriculture. The river is bordered by a flat agricultural strip up to four kilometers wide. The settlement is concentrated in the form of row villages on the banks of the Kyrönjoki. Together with the surrounding arable plains, the Kyrönjoki is one of the 27 national landscapes of Finland .
