Väsen (without Ferrari) in Sebastopol (2008)

Väsen is a Swedish folk music group that originally consisted of Olov Johansson ( Nyckelharpa ) and Roger Tallroth (musician) ( guitar ). After the first CD - which was produced by Ole Poulsen - Mikael Marin ( viola ) was added. The three musicians come from the same region and fall back on the same musical traditions. Its instrumentation is rather unusual for folk music, but in Johansson's opinion the viola fits better than a violin to the pitches of nyckelharpa and guitar.

In 1996 André Ferrari ( percussion ) also joined. His percussion gave the driving sound even more emphasis. They have released numerous albums up to now (2006) and give tours every year (also outside of Europe). Since 2002, André Ferrari has usually not taken part in gigs outside of Sweden because he has little interest in international tours and it is economically more advantageous for a trio. Since then, Väsen has produced the three albums "Trio", "Keyed Up" and "Live in Tokyo" without percussion.

They can be heard as guest musicians in two pieces on the album "String Tease" by the Finnish group JPP . Olov Johansson has also released his own albums. As a guest of the band Snarky Puppy, Väsen also worked on the album "Family Dinner Vol. 2".
