VN Automóveis (also VN Automóveis ) was an automobile and commercial vehicle manufacturer based in Vendas Novas , Portugal .

history

VN Automóveis emerged from the assembly company of Francisco Batista Russo & Irmão , which after its bankruptcy in 1995 became VN Montagem e Reparação de Automóveis Batista Russo, Lda. has been. In 2000, UMM vehicles were manufactured.

After moving to another group of companies, VN Automóveis became a stock corporation. In 2006 VN Automóveis started assembling Isuzu vehicles. In addition to the assembly and conversion of vehicles, the assembly of automotive components was another business area.

In 2011 sales amounted to 2,832,750 euros.

At times, VN Automóveis is said to have had around 500 employees. In 2011 and 2012 the workforce was reduced from 127 to 99 employees. A year later, Isuzu announced that assembly would be relocated to Italy. Against this background, VN Automóveis laid off 33 of around 80 remaining employees.

The series N and the new series F were produced . VN Automóveis received an honorable mention at the Swedish Steel Prize 2005 for its high-strength steel superstructures.

In July 2015, bankruptcy proceedings were opened for the company.

The production figures from 2006 to 2012 fluctuated strongly. Of the units produced in 2008, 2671 were exported.

VN Automóveis was at times the smallest automobile plant in Portugal and the second smallest before Toyota Caetano Portugal with a share in domestic production of 0.7% (2011) and 0.9% (January to November 2013). More than half of the production went to Great Britain, while the rest was spread across Spain, Portugal, Belgium and Cyprus, but also Germany. A production of the car model D-Max cannot be proven (despite corresponding illustration of a source).
