V849 Ophiuchi ( V849 Oph for short ) is a cataclysmic variable in the constellation Ophiuchus , which lit up in 1919 as Nova with the designation Nova Ophiuchi in 1919 and reached a maximum apparent brightness of 7.5  mag .

The nova was discovered in photographs by Johanna CS Mackie during a systematic search of the Harvard College Observatory . Its earliest trace could be traced back to a photo plate from August 20, 1919, on which it had a brightness of 9.4 mag. The Nova reached its maximum brightness on September 13 of the same year with 7.5 mag. The magnitude then fell to 9.5 mag in October, only to reach a brightness maximum comparable to that in mid-September on November 5th. On November 13th, the Nova had decreased to 8.8 mag and the brightness sank continuously to below 11 mag.
