Cryptosporidium parvum is an oval small intestine - a parasite of the genus Cryptosporidium , the diarrhea caused. The disease it causes is known as cryptosporidiosis . Cryptosporidiosis is a zoonosis that is mainlytransmittedby mammals . In immunocompetent people, the infection is symptom-free or self-limiting (= diarrheal disease that stops by itself). In contrast, infants or people with immune disorders can suffer from life-threatening diarrhea.
It is transmitted faecal-orally or via contaminated food / drinking water.
For the direct or indirect detection of human pathogenic cryptosporidia, there is an obligation to report by name in accordance with Section 7 (1) No. 11 of the Infection Protection Act (IfSG).
