The Vaio Corporation ( proper spelling : VAIO, English for Japanese VAIO 株式会社 , baio kabushiki-gaisha ) with headquarters in Nagano prefecture is a Japanese company in the electronics industry that sells laptops . The Vaio Corporation emerged from the former personal computer division of Sony , which in 2014 was sold to the investor "Japan Industrial Partners" ( 日本 産業 パ ー ト ナ ー ズ , Nihon sangyō partners) was sold. The Sony brand name VAIO (Visual Audio Intelligent Organizer) was adopted as the company name of the new company. After the sale, Sony will retain a minority interest of 5% in the company and the VAIO name will remain a trademark of Sony Corporation. Of around 1000 employees in the Sonys computer division, only between 250 and 300 employees were taken on by Vaio Corporation. After Vaio withdrew from the international market in 2014 and only offered its computers on the domestic market in Japan, the company pushed back into the computer markets of Asia and North and South America in the following years with the help of sales partners such as JD.com or Positivo Informática .
