VDI nachrichten is a weekly newspaper that reports on developments in technology and the related framework conditions in business and society. The sold circulation is 132,166 copies, a decrease of 15.6 percent since 1998.

Frequency of publication

The first edition of VDI nachrichten came out in 1921. The weekly newspaper appears on Fridays and is available by subscription. VDI members receive the sheet as part of their VDI membership. The newspaper has been published in tabloid format since 2015 , after having previously appeared in Nordic format.

VDI nachrichten is published by VDI Verlag , which is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Association of German Engineers (VDI). Ken Fouhy is the editor-in-chief of the newspaper and also managing director of the publishing house.

The newspaper is divided into four editorial subject areas:

  • Management & Career (including job market with a focus on engineering professions)

The magazines “Ingenieur Karriere” and “MBA for Engineers” are added to the newspaper twice a year.

With the VDI nachrichten Recruiting Days, VDI Verlag GmbH also offers career fairs for engineers.

VDI nachrichten has roughly maintained its circulation in the past few years. The circulation sold has decreased by an average of 1% per year over the past 10 years. Last year it decreased by 3.7%. It is currently 132,166 copies. The share of subscriptions in the circulation sold is 99.2 percent. The weekly newspaper reached an estimated 365,000 readers in 2017, from young professionals to technical specialists and managers.
