VDW GmbH is a German endodontic manufacturer headquartered in Munich that manufactures and sells systems and instruments for dentists and endodontists . In addition to the production and administration facilities, VDW operates a training center for the advanced training of dentists on the premises of the headquarters. In the 2018/2019 financial year , VDW employed around 2,500 people from 17 nations and produced over 60 million tools per year with a total annual turnover of 104 million euros.
history
VDW (Vereinigte Dentalwerke) is an amalgamation of three companies (Zipperer, Beutelrock, ANTÆOS).
Zipperer was founded in Munich in 1869 by Carl Wilhelm Zipperer. The company specialized in the manufacture of watchmaking and dental tools.
In 1885 the dentist J. Beutelrock, son of a watchmaker from Simbach am Inn , founded a “special factory for own inventions” in Munich. This mainly produced instruments for excavating the root canal and thus already had a specialization in the manufacture of dental tools.
In 1919, Alfons Ehrler, manager of a Saarland steel manufacturer, also began producing dental instruments in Munich. He named his company after ANTÆOS , a giant from Greek mythology . The Æ stands for Ehrler's initials.
In 1972 ANTAEOS, BEUTELROCK and ZIPPERER merged to form VDW.
In 1995 the construction of the new headquarters and the production building in Munich began.
In 2010 the company ATR “Advanced Technology Research” ( Pistoia , Italy ) was integrated into the group of companies as a VDW production site.
