history

VERKA was founded in 1924 by the Central Committee for the Inner Mission of the Evangelical Church in Germany . According to the founding mandate, the mutual insurance association (VVaG), initially operating as the “pension fund for professional workers in the Inner Mission ”, was to supplement the benefits from the statutory pension insurance with a company pension. Due to the chosen legal form, all surpluses generated should benefit the insured.

VERKA has been deregulated since 1998 and is considered a large VVaG. As such, it is subject to the provisions of the German Stock Corporation Act . The policyholders today are primarily the majority of the Protestant regional churches in Germany. The insured are therefore predominantly members of the public service, especially from churches, diakonia and voluntary welfare services , but also from the private sector since the fund opened in the late 1990s. With approximately 57,000 policyholders and € 109 million premium income (2013) in accordance with valid insurance supervision law under the supervision of the Federal Financial Supervisory Authority (BaFin) standing VERKA one of the largest inter-company pension funds in Germany.

To expand it, VERKA founded VIFA Support Fund GmbH in 2000 and VIFA Pensionsfonds AG in 2002 together with other financial services companies, regional churches and the EKD as one of the first pension funds approved in Germany . The administration of the companies in the supply network is carried out by VERKA and its employees.

In 2014, in coordination with the regional churches, the direction of Verka was changed and it was separated into two companies: From now on, Verka operates as an association of Verka PK Kirchliche Pensionskasse AG and Verka VK Kirchliche Vorsorge VVaG.

In 2015, as part of a strategic realignment following the sale of VIFA Pensionsfonds AG to the Pensionskasse für die Deutsche Wirtschaft, VIFA support fund GmbH was separated from the Verka group and sold to Continentale Lebensversicherung AG.

As a result of the strategy development process carried out with the customer and the supervisory board, new offer models were introduced. Verka VK will continue to be the service provider for the administration of VIFA Pensionsfonds AG and thus lay the foundation for the future service model for the administration of pension funds.

The range of services offered by the Verka group was aligned with the introduction of the pension management, capital investment management (through the management of pension institutions) and classic pension insurance models.

In 2018, Verka will no longer offer individual offers in investment management and the administration of supply facilities only to the regional churches and their supply facilities, but also to interested customers outside the church sector.

At the same time, Verka PK has realigned its business model. With the development of modern, flexible and profitable pension insurance products. You connect these products with sustainable investments, manage them digitally and thus optimize administrative efficiency.

The registered trademark VERKA results from the original designation as United sorgungs ka inflows that are not found since 2002 more in the company name. VERKA has around 60 employees at its headquarters in Berlin.
