VII. Party Congress of the PdAK
The VII Party Congress of the PdAK ( Party of Labor of Korea ), also known as the VII Party Congress of the PdAK , took place from 6 to 10 May 2016 ( Juche 104) in the capital Pyongyang ( Democratic People's Republic of Korea or North Korea). It was the first since 1980.

In autumn 2015, the state-controlled news agency KCNA announced that May 2016 would be the first party conference in 36 years. It is not known why there was no party congress between 1980 and 2016. The preparations for this were started 70 days before the alignment with the help of the population. Around 100 foreign journalists were brought to the scene on the first day, but were brought back to their hotels. Instead, they were shown a cable factory, among other things.
3,467 delegates took part. The party congress confirmed the current strategy of the head of state Kim Jong-un to build a nuclear force while developing the economy by opening up to the outside world. The general objectives of economic policy were set out in a five-year plan. For the first time ever, Western journalists were invited to such a party conference. They were allowed to take photos and film inside the assembly hall at least on the last day. However, they were explicitly asked not to take close-up photos of the delegates' notes.

According to the composition of the delegates, 1545 party and political functionaries, 719 members of the People's Army, 423 functionaries of the state administrative and economic organs, 52 functionaries of the mass organizations, 112 functionaries in the fields of science, education, health care, culture and art and mass media, 786 active party members from workplaces , 6 anti-Japanese revolutionary fighters and 24 staunch former long-term inmates. 315 delegates are women.
