The VK Jug Dubrovnik (short: Jug ) CO is a water polo club in Dubrovnik . The abbreviation CO as an appendage in the name of the club stands for the main sponsor Croatia osiguranje (= insurance). The VK in the name stands for v aterpolski k lub Jug (German water polo club south).

history

The club was founded in 1923. Since then, water polo has enjoyed the highest sporting status in sports in Dubrovnik. Extensive youth work and the professional environment have made youth - measured by the number of trophies - one of the most successful water polo clubs in the world. The home is the completely rebuilt water polo and swimming stadium in the district of Dubrovnik-Gruž, which has a convertible roof and offers space for more than 2,500 spectators.

Already at the time of the first Yugoslav league, the VK Jug was one of the top clubs that were also able to achieve great success across Europe. Today he is the most successful team in Croatia , ahead of the capital city club VK Mladost Zagreb . The championships of the first Croatian water polo league ( 1. Vaterpolska Liga ) and the cup competition of recent years are held under these two teams.

6 players from the world champions of Melbourne 2007, the Croatian national team, were part of the Jug squad.

7 players from the Olympic champion in London 2012, the Croatian national team, were part of the Jug squad.

In the 2008/09 season, a national league was founded in addition to the national championship with the Adriatic Water Polo League.

Most successful season

In 2006 and 2016, the club was able to achieve all possible triumphs with the national championship, the national cup, the Euroliga of national champions and the European Supercup.
