VPL Research

VPL Research was a company in which the first commercial virtual reality hardware and software components were developed. It was founded by Jaron Lanier among others with Thomas Zimmermann in Palo Alto, California in 1984. In 1993 VPL Research went bankrupt and the rights were taken over by Sun Microsystems .

The pioneer of virtual reality technology and network 3D Graphics was established in 1985 by the NASA commissioned a data glove ( Dataglove to build) for astronauts. The VPL Research data glove was the first commercial data glove in 1986, and cost around $ 9,000 .
