Karl Foester

Karl Föster (born June 3, 1915 in Bad Fredeburg ; † May 5, 2010 in Arnsberg ) was a board member of the Franz Stock Committee , holder of the Federal Cross of Merit on ribbon and co-author of many books.

Career

Karl Föster was born in Bad Fredeburg in 1915 as one of 11 siblings and lived with his wife in Arnsberg until his death . During the Nazi dictatorship he was a member of the Quickborn , and later also of the Sturmschar . From November 1, 1937 he was a Wehrmacht soldier and later took part in the Second World War. Due to an injury, he was temporarily "unfit for the front" and took his master craftsman examination.

After the war, Föster became a master gardener in the town of Arnsberg, where, among other things, he looked after the Jewish cemetery. Already early after the war he got involved again in the Catholic youth movement. He joined the Pax Christi and campaigned for the advancement of the association as well as in many ways for the reconciliation of Christians and Jews. He has contributed to the documentation of the Arnsberg history workshop "Jews in Arnsberg" with several contributions . In addition, he has published a number of regional historical contributions - often with reference to the Catholic resistance or the youth or peace movement. On November 6, 2006 he received the Federal Cross of Merit on Ribbon in Arnsberg from the District Administrator of the Hochsauerlandkreis, Karl Schneider . For this honor he was proposed by the board of Pax Christi.
